Career progression - Herts Care Careers

Career progression

We like people who take a risk.

Who want their careers with us to have a bit of adventure about them. In short, people who want to progress. Wherever you join us – and at whatever stage of your career – we’ll be right behind your ambitions.

  • If you’re newly qualified, you’ll be able to complete your ASYE with Hertfordshire County Council, developing great skills, knowledge and professional confidence.

If you’re experienced, we’ll work with you to make sure you get the exposure and training you need to go as far as your talent will take you.

  • We’ll train, supervise, mentor and stretch you so you increase your seniority and move through the levels. When you reach senior occupational therapist status, you’ll lead the team on practice, policy and procedure.

  • If you join us a band 5, we’ll help you boost your knowledge of causation, treatment, care. You’ll participate in quality improvements, audit and benchmarking and support the implementation of clinical standards and new practices. Band 6 beckons!

  • The next step from here is senior community care officer. This will mean supporting community care officers to deliver a high-quality service, as well as mentoring and coaching them so they can develop their skills and practice.

To get here, we’ll be looking for an enthusiastic approach to continual professional development. This will include supervision experience and actively engaging with local communities. Your personal development plan will help guide your development but you’ll drive it you will also need a care work or similar qualification.

  • From here, you can progress to a support worker role. As a support assistant, you won’t be required to carry out sleep in shifts or administer medication

  • Administering medication and mentoring less experienced colleagues are both part of this role. We’ll encourage you to complete a care certificate and support you towards your level 2 RQF qualification or equivalent.

  • This role calls for a level 2 RQF qualification. It will see you supervise junior colleagues and, with our support, work your level 3 RQF qualification or equivalent
